Scream 7 has a surprisingly heartwarming tribute to one of Ghostface’s original victims, which is fitting since 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the first movie.
The new sequel once again follows Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbel) who has to fight for her life when a new masked killer starts hunting her family. She’s joined by a handful of newcomers to the franchise including Joel McHale, McKenna Grace, Mark Consuelos, Ethan Embry, Celeste O’Connor, and Gen V star Asa Germann.
Plus, Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown are returning as the Martin-Meeks twins from 2022’s Scream and 2023’s Scream 6. Of course, Scream 7 wouldn’t be complete without Gale Weathers, and Courtney Cox is reprising her role as the dogged reporter. Plus, Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley, who played Ghostfaces in Scream and Scream 3 respectively, are both confirmed to return – but the extent of their roles is unclear for now.
Clearly, Scream 7 is going to be something of a love letter to the entire franchise (then again, aren’t they all?) and leading star Neve Campbell just revealed the film’s wholesome tribute to an original Ghostface victim.
Sidney’s daughter in Scream 7 is named after one of Ghostface’s original victims
When speaking to People, Campbell confirmed that Sidney’s daughter Tatum (Isabel May) is named after her friend Tatum Riley (Rose McGowan) who was killed by Ghostface at Stu Macher’s house party in the original Scream movie.
“Isn’t that beautiful. Rose did such a beautiful job in this movie and that character is beloved and missed,” she explained. “It makes sense that Sidney would name her daughter Tatum. It makes a lot of sense. I think it’s a lovely idea.”
Fans will remember that Tatum was killed when Ghostface cornered her in the basement. She tries to flee through a dog flap in the garage door, but the killer switches the automatic door on and crushes the teenager while she’s midway through the flap. Brutal and memorable.
Dexerto also caught up with Campbell ahead of Scream 7 where she recalled working with Roger Jackson, who provides the iconic Ghostface voice. She explained that she didn’t get to meet him until after the first two films, which helped immerse the cast in the terrifying nature of being called up by a serial killer.
