Somehow, Ghostface has returned. The first trailer for Scream 7 has finally arrived online after years of speculation, and fans think a major killer has returned to Woodsboro.
The first trailer shows a vicious Ghostface promising to “burn it all down” as Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) fights for her life… Again. This time the killer is making things even more personal, as Sidney’s daughter Tatum (Isabel May) is also a major target.
Scream 7 came under fire in 2023 when Melissa Barrera (who played Sam Carpenter in the recent films) was fired by Spyglass Entertainment, and the studio said it was in relation to her posts on social media about the Israel-Hamas conflict. Jenna Ortega, who played Tara Carpenter, also left the project as a result.
Now, the Scream 7 trailer firmly puts Sidney in the spotlight as her family is hunted by Ghostface. The first trailer seemingly reveals a major return that horror fans have been dying for.
Matthew Lillard’s Stu Macher ends the Scream 7 trailer with a creepy line
As well as showing Sidney’s return, you may not have noticed the trailer also reveals Matthew Lillard’s Stu Macher, who is returning to the franchise. The iconic killer doesn’t show up in person, but instead has an ominous line of dialogue at the end of the trailer: “This is gonna be fun.”
Fans in the comments were also convinced that Stu is the one speaking at the end of the footage. One of them wrote “That’s 1,000,000% Matthew Lillard’s voice at the end,” and another added “Next year will be the 30th Anniversary of the first Scream it makes perfect sense to bring back Stu.”
The trailer starts with a couple staying in Stu’s old house, which has been turned into a themed Airbnb, before Ghostface shows up and slaughters them both. If that is Stu in the Ghostface mask, it seems like he’s returned to reclaim the legacy that he and Billy Loomis started all those years ago.
Lillard isn’t the only actor reprising their role in Scream 7, because Courteney Cox’s Gale Weathers shows up to give Sidney some backup. Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown also reprise their roles as the Meeks-Martin twins, and they briefly appear as they’re shown watching a news report about the new Ghostface.
