Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice cemented itself as a massively successful new IP made by Dark Souls developers From Software, one that won Game of the Year when it came out in 2019.

However, in the time since it came out, the IP has been dormant. And, unlike most other modern FromSoft games, it didn’t even get DLC. Fans have been chomping at the bit to get more from the series, and now they will – but not in the form of a new game.

Instead, Sekiro: No Defeat is an anime adaptation of the original game’s story. The trailer showcases some of the most iconic boss fights and an intro that’s a straight retelling of the game’s opening hours.

Sekiro’s getting an anime that pays homage to the original

From Software games are infamously difficult to get into. There are many potential players who choose instead to watch their favorite streamer play the game or use YouTube videos to get the full story.

Now, for the first time ever, From Software is taking matters into its own hands and retelling the narrative on its own terms.

Starting in the very same way as the original Sekiro, the White Wolf loses his arm in combat and gets set on a journey to conquer his demons and rescue the young lord Kuro, the last of the Dragon’s Heritage.

And, though the trailer was short, Sekiro can be seen fighting bosses like Genichiro Ashina and Gyoubu Oniwa.

It isn’t yet clear how much of Sekiro’s original story this anime will cover, especially since there are optional side quests and branching paths that can change the fate of several side characters.
