One of Waymo’s self-driving taxis was pulled over by police in Los Angeles, but there was no one to ticket after it got into a bit of road rage.
Self-driving cars have been the future for quite some time, with the main use of them, right now, being taxis and ride-share operations. Both Waymo and Tesla have started rolling out car services in the United States, with Waymo just slightly ahead.
The former Google self-driving car project is operating across California and Arizona, as well as in Atlanta and Austin, but it hasn’t been without issues.
In a video from early July, TikToker kiefer_d_live revealed that one of the Waymo cars was pulled over by police after a G-Wagon driver got frustrated with it and decided to give it a smack.
Waymo pulled over by police after traffic incident
That’s right, in kiefer_d_live’s video, a G-Wagon driver was so annoyed by the self-driving car that they hopped out and hit the back of it. That caused the Waymo car to make an incorrect turn, right in front of Beverly Hills Police.
“No way! Bro, there’s nobody in there!” the TikToker said, watching the police pull the self-driving car over for a routine traffic stop.
Multiple officers approached the car, looking in the window for a driver, but obviously there was no one in the driver’s seat. “There’s nobody in there,” the TikToker shouted.
Many viewers were as confused as kiefer_d_live, questioning just who gets the ticket in that scenario – if anyone at all.
“Who gets the ticket or fine?” one asked. “What even happens in this situation. Who does the cop talk to and how? Do they just write a ticket and send it to Google?” another quizzed.
One viewer noted that when Waymo cars have been pulled over previously, police are able to call operators to talk to a human about the incident. Though, who knows what happens with the ticket.
