Legendary FPS streamer shroud is refusing to move his broadcasts onto a non-partnered channel like Asmongold and took issue with creators who hate on Twitch.
On an October 6 broadcast, Michael ‘shroud’ Grzesiek was playing Megabonk and talking with viewers about his incredible financial situation, leaving viewers to suggest he stop playing ads.
“I can’t!” shroud exclaimed. “It’s not possible. It’s not my jurisdiction. I literally can’t do that.”
Being a Twitch Partner channel means that you share ad revenue with the platform. Not every streamer has been quick to monetize their channels, however. Notably, Asmongold grew his alternate account, ‘zackrawrr,’ to a point where Twitch was losing money by not showing ads and he was forced to accept Partner status.
“I could pull an Asmongold and stream on a channel that isn’t Partnered until Twitch gets really mad at me. I could do that. It’s actually a hilarious idea, but kinda f**ked up,” he added. “I wouldn’t dare.”
According to shroud, he simply values Twitch too much to cause any issues.
Shroud calls out Twitch streamers who “hate” the platform
After brutally misquoting the expression “don’t bite the hand that feeds you,” Grzesiek said it “makes absolutely no sense” for streamers to hate on Twitch when it’s earning them money.
“Their whole livelihoods are on Twitch and it’s their absolute goal to bring them down. I get giving Twitch feedback and I get giving them harsh criticism, but to want them to fail when your livelihood depends on it is crazy.”
The former CSGO pro then dug into alternative options, stating that YouTube doesn’t generate the same amount of revenue for content creators.
“And don’t get me started on a world with just Kick. If we’re all degenerate gamblers together, then f**k it. If we all do it, I’m there,” he joked.
Although shroud may not have any intentions of creating on new Twitch channel to bypass ads, some streamers have taken radical steps to not have commercials ruin broadcasts.
