The actors who play Hinako’s parents in Silent Hill f have been named official tourism ambassadors for the real Japanese town that inspired the game’s town.
Takeshi Masago and Tamami Hiraoka, who portray the parents of protagonist Hinako Shimizu in Silent Hill f, previously made headlines on December 29 after going viral for streaming their own playthrough of the survival horror game.
Their broadcasts followed earlier buzz surrounding Konatsu Kato, the actor behind Hinako, who completed her first playthrough and impressed fans by returning to the nightmare she helped bring to life.
Now, Hinako’s fictional parents have taken that connection even further as IGN has revealed the duo has become tourism ambassadors for the location that served as inspiration for the fictional town of Ebisugaoka.
Hinako’s parents now represent town that inspired game
Silent Hill f is set in the fictional town of Ebisugaoka in 1960s Japan, where high schooler Hinako battles creeping fog and grotesque horrors while trying to uncover the truth about her past.
The game’s developers drew heavy visual and cultural inspiration from Kanayama in Gero City, Gifu Prefecture, using its narrow streets and distinct townscape to shape the look and feel of Ebisugaoka.
Since release, fans have been visiting the real-world location, often sharing photos and comparisons online by highlighting the similarities between Kanayama and Silent Hill f’s in-game environments.
Hinako’s father also visited Okuhida Shuzo, a Japanese sake brewery based in the real-life version of Ebisugaoka, the same brewery that released a special Silent Hill f sake and chocolate collab back in January.
Hinako’s parents becoming tourism ambassadors is the latest example of how the region is leaning into its connection with the franchise, using the spotlight around Silent Hill f to attract visitors eager to experience the atmospheric setting that inspired the nightmarish survival horror game.
