The actress and model behind Silent Hill f’s protagonist, Hinako Shimizu, has revealed that she could feel her sanity almost “slipping” while portraying the high school student.
Silent Hill f has already made headlines for its grizzly disclaimer, which famously warned fans over its distressing scenes and themes that viewers may find distressing. For those who don’t know, Silent Hill f is set within 1960s Japan, during the Showa period.
It’s here where high school girl Hinako finds herself fighting for her life as a mysterious fog descends upon her hometown of Ebisugaoka. However, it’s not just the grizzly horrors that await her, as the devs revealed that the game contains “depictions of gender discrimination, child abuse, bullying, drug-induced hallucinations, torture, and graphic violence.”
As you can imagine, Silent Hill f is not for the faint-hearted, and the Japanese actress and model behind Hinako revealed that she could feel her sanity almost “slipping” while portraying the character.
Silent Hill f actress had a hard time playing Hinako Shimizu
Posting via the official Silent Hill Twitter account and translated by Automaton, Japanese actress Konatsu Kato explained just how demanding her role in Silent Hill f has been.
“I’ve been living as Hinako in the world of Silent Hill for a long time now,” the actress wrote. “On some days, I almost felt my own sanity slipping, but it was worth it to be able to contribute to this game.”
On June 4, the devs released another terrifying trailer at the Sony State of Play. This time, players were given a deeper look at the game’s creepy environments and how combat will work, with Hinako beating back fleshy abominations with a metal bar.
The three-minute video was bloody, brutal, and incredibly creepy. Interestingly, the devs shared some of the psychological themes that we can expect to see manifest within Hinako, with the high schooler seemingly struggling with the loss of her friends and feelings of isolation.
While we’ll need to wait until September 25, 2025, to see the full extent of Silent Hill f’s horrors, it’s easy to see how Hinako’s actress had a tough time portraying her.
