Silent Hill producer Motoi Okamoto has shared his thoughts on the role of AI in game development, saying artificial intelligence could never replicate the kind of bold creative decisions behind Silent Hill f.

His comments come after Death Stranding and Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima said he sees a future where creators will work alongside AI rather than compete against it.

While Kojima described AI as a tool to expand creativity, not replace it, and remains optimistic about its potential in the creative process, Okamoto is less convinced about its use in creating original works.

Silent Hill producer weighs in on AI

“It would be quite difficult for AI to replace works that take a significant departure from the original path of the series, like Silent Hill f,” Okamoto said on X, with his comments translated via Automaton.

“AI may be able to put together a project for a sequel that takes place in the Silent Hill universe, but things like changing the story’s setting to Japan or getting Ryukishi07 on board as a writer are the kind of bold choices AI would never be able to make.”

As the producer leading Konami’s Silent Hill revival, Okamoto has overseen projects like Silent Hill f, Silent Hill: Townfall, and the Silent Hill 2 remake. His stance reflects a wider industry debate over whether AI can truly fuel creativity, as more studios experiment with generative tools for writing, art, and worldbuilding.

While some developers see AI as a way to speed up production, Okamoto’s comments underline a growing belief that the human instinct for risk-taking and originality remains irreplaceable, especially in series defined by creative reinvention like Silent Hill.
