A new Silent Hill game is on the way, and it’s coming much sooner than you might expect. Here’s everything you need to know about Silent Hill Townfall.
While the Silent Hill franchise remained dormant for quite some time, it’s now enjoying its most active period yet. Hot on the heels of the critically acclaimed Silent Hill f, set in Japan, another new entry in the franchise is fast-approaching.
Silent Hill Townfall, set in Europe, is next up, and its development is already well underway. We know where it’s set, how gameplay is evolving, and also when we might be able to play it.
So here’s the full overview of everything there is to know about Silent Hill Townfall.
While there’s no exact release date just yet, we do know Silent Hill Townfall is targeting a 2026 launch.
Given it’s been in active development since 2022, the game is quite far along. We’d expect to see it at the tail end of the calendar year, at least, that’s if it doesn’t mind going head-to-head with GTA 6.
What platforms will it be on?
Silent Hill Townfall is confirmed to be releasing across the PS5 and PC (through both Steam and the Epic Games Store).
There’s currently no word on support for any additional platforms, including the Xbox Series X | S or the Nintendo Switch 2.
Silent Hill Townfall setting & story details
Townfall ventures to a new territory for the horror franchise, invoking new frights in Scotland. The game takes place in 1996, and as such, technology isn’t what we see today. Instead of a smartphone, our protagonist, Simon Ordell, largely relies on a nifty CRTV to help detect monsters in the foggy town.
As you’d expect, things aren’t quite right on the island of St. Amelia. There’s a thick layer of fog covering the quaint town, and it’s mysteriously quiet. It’s our job to delve deeper into the confusing streets and ominous alleys to unravel the past and uncover what lies ahead.
Much like Silent Hill f, this is an offshoot of the mainline franchise, exploring how Silent Hill can be adapted to different lands with different tales. It’s not expected to have much connective tissue with other mainline entries.
Silent Hill Townfall gameplay
Townfall is different from any other Silent Hill game in that it swaps to a first-person perspective. You’re confronting monsters up close like never before, and navigating through the fog through the eyes of Simon, rather than over his shoulder.
There’s definitely still an emphasis on melee combat, much like in last year’s Silent Hill f. However, you’ll also find that running away or avoiding encounters is just as prominent too.
Using the CRTV device, Simon is able to peer through the fog, detect enemies, and plan accordingly. It’s also something that can be used to uncover secrets of the Scottish island.
“Draw too much attention and [enemies] will dynamically hunt the player, using their senses to track them down as best they can,” Writer and Director Jon McKellan said.
Puzzles will play a big role throughout this experience too, rewarding your attention to detail along the horrifying journey.
Trailers
The first teaser arrived all the way back in 2022, but it was just that, a brief teaser with no real details. The studio then went dark until its reemergence.
Our first proper look at Silent Hill Townfall came during the February 12, 2026 State of Play event. Here, we got a look at the game in action, and it was followed up by a new Silent Hill Transmission Livestream to dig into further details.
That’s everything we know about the new Silent Hill game for the time being. Rest assured, we’ll keep you updated with any new announcements.
