Skate is proving to be an incredibly popular release, after an impressive one million fans signed up for the upcoming playtest.
Set in the fictional city of San Vansterdam, the new Skate isn’t just bringing the franchise back. It’s aiming to redefine it. And so far, the demand speaks for itself, with a record number of players looking to skate their way into the playtest.
After all, Skate fans have waited over a decade for this moment. Following years of silence following Skate 3, EA finally confirmed a reboot in 2020. Now called Skate and developed by new studio Full Circle, the game is shaping up to be something completely different, a free-to-play, always-online sandbox built for cross-play, community content, and live service updates.
EA reveals massive playtest numbers
Backing up how hyped players are for the game, EA has revealed that over one million players have signed up for the upcoming Skate playtest. This playtest marks a major milestone not just for the game, but for EA, as it’s the biggest playtest signup in the company’s history.
Invites are now being sent out in waves. Anyone who registered before June 27 will receive an email with a code before the end of July. PC players will need to redeem the code through the EA App to download the build.
Meanwhile, console players will need to redeem their code directly on their system once the invitation hits their inbox.
Now, with the reboot in full swing and early access expected to launch in late summer 2025, that long wait is finally paying off, and over a million players are ready to drop in before it fully releases.
