Sony shut down Bluepoint Games, the remake specialists behind Demon’s Souls, and cut about 70 jobs after canceling its latest project.

The move followed a turbulent year inside PlayStation’s live-service strategy. In January 2025, Sony canceled multiple unannounced multiplayer projects after an internal review, including a live-service God of War game that Bluepoint had been developing.

That decision came amid a broader retreat from high-risk online bets. While Helldivers 2 broke through in 2024, other efforts, like Concord, failed.

Bluepoint, once known for prestige remakes, had aligned itself with that online pivot, and when the strategy shifted, its future narrowed.

Bloomberg News reported that Sony Group Corp. was shutting down Bluepoint Games, the subsidiary known for high-end remakes of beloved titles.

About 70 employees will lose their jobs. A PlayStation spokesperson said the decision came “following a recent business review,” and confirmed the studio will close next month.

“Bluepoint Games is an incredibly talented team and their technical expertise has delivered exceptional experiences for the PlayStation community,” the spokesperson said. “We thank them for their passion, creativity, and craftsmanship.”

Bluepoint had spent the last year pitching new ideas after its live-service God of War game was scrapped.

The studio never announced that project publicly, but Bloomberg previously reported on its existence and cancellation. Internally, Sony told staff it would work to ensure “minimal business impact,” though it did not clarify whether the cuts would extend further.
