Sony has filed a $2M federal lawsuit against an eBay seller accused of selling counterfeit PlayStation 5 accessories, as part of the company’s ongoing effort to crack down on fake PlayStation products across major online marketplaces.
Throughout 2025, Sony has been targeting counterfeit sellers on Amazon, Walmart, AliExpress, and other platforms. This new lawsuit focuses on a single eBay storefront.
Filed on October 24 in Illinois, the complaint accuses the seller, operating under the alias “zaocuand-002,” of trademark infringement and counterfeiting. The lawsuit says the seller has marketed and sold “Unauthorized Products” bearing PlayStation trademarks to U.S. consumers, including those in Illinois.
The seller’s storefront, which currently shows over 9,000 items sold and a 97.8% positive feedback score, offers an $89.59 PlayStation 5 carrying case. The listing was briefly removed, but appears to have been re-added.
Sony seeks injunctions and millions in damages
In the lawsuit, Sony is asking the court to order eBay and similar platforms to take down the seller’s listings and disable their storefront. The company is also seeking up to $2 million in statutory damages for each counterfeit trademark use.
The filing includes screenshots of the storefront and product listings, and alleges that the seller attempts to hide behind aliases while using official branding in titles, descriptions, and hidden metadata to mislead consumers and drive search traffic.
