Sony has patented a system that could generate AI-driven podcasts voiced by PlayStation characters, signaling a push toward more personalized player experiences.

First reported by VGC, the filing describes technology powered by large language models that can automatically create tailored audio briefings using player data.

The patent, applied for in July 2024 and granted in late January 2026, is titled ‘LLM-Based Generative Podcasts for Gamers’.

According to the filing, the proposed solution is to “generate a podcast of news related to the data, with the podcast presenting the news in the voice of a video game character of a video game played by the video game player”.

The patent claims: “Video game platforms currently lack the ability to provide unique and targeted content to gamers to update the gamers about things that are happening on the platform,” and that “there are currently no adequate solutions to the foregoing computer-related, technological problem.”

Sony revealed that the system could function like a personalized gaming newscast, showing updates about titles a player recently engaged with, games their friends are playing, and new releases within their favorite genres.

The podcast could also pull information from platform websites, blogs, and player-specific gameplay data to build each episode. Sony also outlined scenarios where the show is not just narrated by one character but structured as a conversation between two characters from the same game or even different titles tied to the player’s preferences.

As with most patents, there is no confirmation that Sony plans to release the technology publicly, but this isn’t the only AI concept Sony has explored.
