A restaurant in Spain is going viral for offering the ‘world’s most expensive hamburger’ at an eye-popping price, leaving users across social media wondering if it’s worth the expense.
Luxury restaurants can cost a pretty penny, but the overall dining experience and skill from seasoned chefs often make up for the price of a fancy night out.
However, one lauded restaurant in Spain is raising eyebrows for the amount it’s charging for a single hamburger — a meal that’s hailed as an American staple and generally priced fairly cheaply in the States.
The “world’s most expensive burger” costs more than most rent payments
Asador Aupa is an upscale restaurant in Barcelona, Spain, that offers “authentic Basque cuisine with a traditional Basque menu,” as well as a special “inclined grill.”
However, the grill isn’t what’s drawing eyeballs from the internet; instead, it’s Aupa’s forthcoming burger they’ve nicknamed, ‘The World’s Most Expensive Burger.’
On its official website, Aupa explains that the burger is made from “the three best meats in the world, Europe’s most exclusive cheese, and a sauce based on a luxury spirit.”
That’s not all; customers will only get to eat this burger if they receive an exclusive invitation, and they’ll have to pony up a whopping 9450€ ($10963 USD) to buy it.
Aupa says it’s already experiencing a “high demand” for the burger, so it won’t be available until February 2026. If you’re really keen on trying it for yourself, you can fill out a form to get on their waiting list, though.
However, even that isn’t enough to guarantee you a spot on the list. To even get a chance at tasting this burger, you have to “demonstrate that you have done something good for society.”
The burger’s official name is ‘SUA’ and was created by cook and food influencer Chef Bosco, who challenged himself to “create a truly unique burger without resorting to extravagant or meaningless ingredients like gold, caviar, or king crab.”
What’s more, the burger’s “secret formula” is intentionally kept hidden from the masses, but Aupa’s website claims it is made with “several of the finest and most prestigious meats in the world, and that the secret sauce contains an unconventional, highly valuable ingredient, known only to a few.”
“This is not just a burger,” Aupa boasts. “It’s an experience in extreme luxury, created for a select few.”
