Spider-Man: Brand New Day will kick off production in two months, and according to a new report, it may have two new antagonists – and a few familiar faces.
No Way Home gave Peter Parker a clean slate: nobody remembers he’s Spider-Man, so he should be free to swing around New York as a friendly neighborhood superhero.
There have been a lot of rumors about Brand New Day; at one point, people said it was another multiverse story with Andrew Garfield and Toby Maguire, others reported that Kingpin and Daredevil would be involved, and most recently, it’s been claimed that Mark Ruffalo will return as Bruce Banner.
Now, thanks to The Cosmic Circus, we may have an idea of who Spidey will be up against.
Spider-Man 4 to feature 2 new villains and other MCU characters
In Alex Perez’s latest Q&A, they reported that Viper and Silver Samurai may be the main antagonists in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
“Hopefully this new lead is actually the one that points us in the right direction. But some new concept art now features a Samurai character,” they wrote.
“It’s possible we may very well could be looking at Viper and Silver Samurai as the main antagonists for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and it could tie into a storyline that involves a team-up featuring Spider-Man and Shang-Chi. So, we’ll see if that turns out.”
In the comics, Viper is a Hungarian orphan taken in by HYDRA and raised by Kraken, an elite assassin. She eventually becomes a foe of the X-Men and the Avengers, and in one run, she tries to persuade Black Widow to join her enterprise.
Two people have held the Silver Samurai mantle in the comics: Kenuichio Harada, a Japanese mutant who uses his powers to charge his katana, and Shin Harada, Kenuichio’s son. A variation of the character also appeared in 2013’s The Wolverine.
It’s unclear how they’ll be involved in the film or if they’ll be connected in any way to Mister Negative, who’s also rumored to appear.
As for the Hulk’s role, Perez said it may involve a “connection dating back to the earliest days of the MCU and exploring some uncharted territory for both characters’ personal histories.”
It’s worth bearing in mind that other reports have positioned the Hulk as one of the main antagonists, if not the biggest villain in the movie.
Also, the film may include more MCU characters than you’d expect. “We may be looking at a number of established MCU characters popping up in this film, not just Bruce in particular,” Perez wrote.
“Normally, it’s just 1, 2 or even 3 MCU characters appearing in these films, but I heard we may be actually getting a couple of more showing up this time around.”
