New photos from the Spider-Man: Brand New Day set have fans questioning whether Sadie Sink is playing a vicious Punisher character in the Marvel movie.
The fourth MCU Spider-Man movie was always going to be an intriguing one for fans after Tom Holland’s hero met Tobey Maguire’s Webhead and Andrew Garfield’s Wall-Crawler in No Way Home.
Speculation and theories about more cameos and storylines have run rampant online for months, especially where Sink’s character is concerned. Some suggested she might play Mayday Parker, the daughter of Peter Parker and Mary-Jane Watson from another universe. Others thought she’d been cast as X-Men’s Jean Grey.
But a fresh look at Sink on the Brand New Day set has sparked a new theory that she’s playing Rachel Cole, which would make sense since Jon Bernthal’s Punisher will also star in the sequel.

The new photos and videos from the Spider-Man: Brand New Day set show Sink wearing combat boots and trousers underneath a large coat, presumably to hide her full costume to keep her role under wraps. The costume details pointed fans toward Rachel Cole, one of Frank Castle’s allies from the comics with an equally tragic backstory.
Cole was introduced in Greg Rucka and Marco Checchetto’s The Punisher series in 2011, and she’s a redheaded Marine veteran who served in Afghanistan before returning to live in New York.
Her wedding reception was caught in the crossfire between the Owl’s goons and a crime syndicate called the Exchange. Cole was the only person to survive the massacre, which led her to wage a war against the Exchange, and after briefly butting heads, she started working with Punisher.
During that story, the pair also crossed paths with the likes of Spider-Man and Daredevil while they attempted to retrieve a hard drive that would lead them to other criminal organizations. Since the film seems to be more street-level, adding in a Punisher-related character would make sense.
Over on Reddit, some fans are convinced that Sadie’s red hair and combat boots means she’s playing Cole. One user summed it up, writing, “Camo pants and combat boots. Rachel Cole would be my guess,” while someone else wrote, “I did see a rumor that Frank would have a female companion.”
Another chimed in, “My guess is Rachel Cole, female, red-haired Punisher ally. She’s got what looks like military-style boots and pants under that coat.”
Previous set photos also suggested that Brand New Day will include the Inner Demons gang (run by Mr. Negative), so perhaps the MCU is tweaking Cole’s tragic backstory so that they were the ones who turned her wedding reception into a massacre. Time will tell.
