The first synopsis for Spider-Man: Brand New Day has arrived online, but Marvel fans are confused about the timeline that it establishes for Tom Holland’s Wall-Crawler after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home…
The sequel will follow Peter Parker as an anonymous superhero once again after Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) erased him from the memories of the entire world at the end of the third movie. It was a last ditch attempt to protect those closest to him, and effectively gives the MCU a clean slate to tell new stories without always acknowledging that the world knows Peter is Spider-Man.
Of course, Marvel and Sony have kept the plot of the highly anticipated 2026 movie under wraps, but we know it will feature a handful of villains, including Scorpion, Boomerang, and Tarantula. If that wasn’t enough to contend with, Jon Bernthal’s Punisher is also making his big screen debut, and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk is also involved in some capacity.
So it looks like Peter will have a lot on his plate in Brand New Day, but fans are a little confused about the timeline of the movie after the synopsis surfaced online.
Marvel fans aren’t sure when Spider-Man: Brand New Day takes place
The first synopsis for Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrived online stating that it’s been “four years” since Peter became anonymous, and fans on Reddit are questioning when the film will take place in the Marvel timeline.
One person wrote: “So the question is MCU Peter Parker is just about 21 or 22 in Brand New Day?” While others pointed out that the film might skip the hero’s time at college completely.
“Are they actually going to start with a 4+ year jump from where we last saw him at the end of No Way Home? Are we potentially going to completely skip the college years? Full on adult Spider-Man would be pretty sick, as much as I enjoy the college years,” another user added.
Remember, a key point in No Way Home was Peter trying to get into college along with MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon), and the four-year jump would likely bypass most of that, presuming that he goes to college at that time.
However, one user managed to lay it all out quite plainly – pointing out that No Way Home took place at the end of 2024.
They explained: “Reminder that No Way Home ends in December 2024, as Peter is getting ready for his GEDs. This means he will (most likely) enter college in September 2025 and will be in his senior year during Fall/Winter 2028 when this movie apparently takes place (despite previous set photos indicating a Fall 2027 placement instead).”
