With Spider-Man: Brand New Day kicking off production, all eyes have been on Tom Holland’s new outfit – and it may have revealed what Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom will look like.
On August 2, one day before shooting began, the official Spider-Man X/Twitter account posted a 23-second clip unveiling Holland’s new suit. It has been liked nearly 350,000 times and amassed over 23 million views.
There are already think pieces and lively debates around each tiny detail on the suit, whether it’s the raised webbing, bigger lenses, or web shooters on the outside of his wrists.
However, there is something fans may not have considered: it looks exactly like artwork on an official marquee months ago, which could be an exciting tease for Avengers: Doomsday.
Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom costume may have already been revealed
Earlier this year, a promotional banner at the Disney Blockbuster Consumer Products panel went viral for two reasons: one, it featured an image of Spider-Man that many presumed to be a first look at Brand New Day; and two, it also had an image of Doctor Doom.
It was debunked… at the time, because both images had been seen elsewhere. More specifically, the picture of Spidey was a Marvel stock image, and it was Alex Ross’ artwork of Doom.
Here’s the thing: that render of Spider-Man has turned out to be extraordinarily accurate, from the lenses to Holland’s updated spider logo on the suit.
Considering Downey wore a similar outfit when he was revealed as Doom at San Diego Comic-Con and his mask in the Fantastic Four post-credits scene isn’t a million miles away from Ross’ drawing, could this also be an early look at his suit?
Fans think so. “We’re most definitely getting a comic-accurate Doctor Doom fit right out of the comics, I can’t freakin wait man,” one user wrote.
“I can see him wearing this for the first act but then upgrading to something higher tech later on,” another speculated. “If Robert Downey Jr. doesn’t look like this, I f**king will riot,” a third posted.
“So now that the Brand New Day suit proved to be basically revealed this way… and we got this shot in the post-credits scene… do we think this is ~80% accurate of what MCU Doom’s first appearance will look like?” a fourth asked.
