Spotify is expanding its presence in AI chat platforms with a new ChatGPT integration that lets users find and play music or podcasts directly through conversation.

The rollout brings Spotify’s recommendation tools into OpenAI’s chatbot, available in English across 145 countries for all ChatGPT Free, Plus, and Pro users on both web and mobile.

The update builds on the app’s growing ecosystem of more than 2,000 device integrations, which spans cars, TVs, and gaming platforms, as part of the company’s push to make discovery more accessible wherever listeners are.

Both Free and Premium users can now utilize ChatGPT to generate playlists, discover new artists, and explore podcasts directly within their chat window.

How it works

After connecting a Spotify account for the first time, users can mention “Spotify” in a ChatGPT prompt to trigger the integration. From there, OpenAI’s chatbot can respond with specific tracks, albums, playlists, or podcast episodes, and users can tap results to open them directly in the Spotify app.

Listeners can also ask for recommendations based on genres, moods, or topics — like “create a playlist for a weekend road trip” or “play the latest from my favorite K-pop star.”

Free users can browse Spotify’s curated collections such as Discover Weekly and New Music Friday, while Premium subscribers can generate entirely personalized selections. The experience is fully opt-in, and Spotify says no audio or video content is shared with OpenAI for training purposes.
