Nearly a decade after Nier: Automata dropped, Square Enix has confirmed the series is not finished yet, with a new entry potentially on the way.
The reveal came during the franchise’s 9th anniversary livestream, where Square Enix celebrated the game’s legacy while quietly confirming what fans have been hoping to hear for years.
At the end of the broadcast, the developer teased that it could be releasing another game with the statement: “Nier: Automata to be continued.”

Since its release back in 2017, Nier: Automata has grown into one of Square Enix’s biggest modern releases, earning tons of support and love for its story, gameplay, and, of coursese loveable characters.
Naturally, this was celebrated in the game’s 9th anniversary livestream, where Square Enix confirmed the title has now surpassed 10 million copies sold worldwide, cementing its status as a major commercial and critical success.
Despite confirming the continuation, Square Enix stopped short of announcing whether the next project will be a direct sequel, a spin-off, a completely new entry connected to Automata’s universe, or just a promise to continue with their current projects. However, the wording leaves the door open to multiple exciting possibilities.
Recent developments strongly suggest that a new core project is already in progress. In summer 2025, key Nier: Automata developers confirmed they were working together on a new project. At the time, the team hinted that the game might not be revealed until 2027, suggesting a longer development timeline.
That timeline aligns closely with Nier: Automata’s 10th anniversary, which would be an ideal moment for Square Enix to release or formally unveil a new entry.
For now, Square Enix has not announced any information about the title, release, or what format the continuation is, only that Nier: Automata is far from over.
