The Mandalorian & Grogu is only a few months away from flying into theaters, but Disney’s Super Bowl trailer for the movie has baffled Star Wars fans.

In case it wasn’t clear, The Mandalorian & Grogu is a continuation of the beloved TV series, which kicked off a wave of small screen Star Wars adventures on Disney+ like Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka, Andor, The Acolyte, and Skeleton Crew.

Little is known about the movie, which is directed by the show’s creator Jon Favreau. But it will see The Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu on an adventure that teams them up with members of the Rebel Alliance while the remnants of the Imperial Empire are trying to reassemble throughout the galaxy.

The first trailer for the film dropped back in October, giving fans a glimpse of the action in the series as well as Star Wars newcomer Sigourney Weaver as a Rebel leader. But Disney dropped a bizarre teaser for The Mandalorian & Grogu during the Super Bowl, and fans are seriously confused about it.

The Mandalorian & Grogu Super Bowl spot is a parody of Coors beer commercials

Yes, you read that right: The Mandalorian & Grogu Super Bowl trailer is a parody of classic adverts for Coors Banquet beer – complete with narration from actor Sam Elliott, who is also known for lending his voice to the adverts.

It’s definitely an unexpected tactic from Disney since this is the first Star Wars movie to arrive in theaters since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker, and fans were expecting a little more hype than a parody trailer.

The 36-second spot shows The Mandalorian and Grogu riding a sled through the snow being pulled by Tauntauns (and we thought they smelt bad on the outside…) alongside narration from Elliott that leans into the themes of the show and Mandalorian culture.

He says: “Sometimes we choose our path. Other times the path chooses us. Through it all, we keep pushing forward, driven by a deeper purpose, guided by an unseen Force. The journey never gets any easier. The bond just gets harder to break. This is the Way.”

But perhaps the studio was trying to cater to general Super Bowl audiences, who thought they were getting a generic beer commercial, only to discover that there’s a new Star Wars movie on the way, in a few months time. However, that approach has definitely annoyed the Star Wars fandom.

Star Wars fans question “is that all they’re going to show?”

At the time of writing, there are three months to go until The Mandalorian & Grogu arrives in theaters, and fans aren’t happy that the Super Bowl spot didn’t show any scenes from the film.

As one person replied to the trailer on X, saying: “Seriously, is that all? The movie comes out in three months and all we’ve seen is a teaser and a few spots. Don’t tell me that’s it? If so that’s beyond disappointing.”

Others chimed in to say that they thought the teaser was an advert for something else, not Star Wars. “This feels a lot more like a motion billboard than a trailer. What is this? It can’t tell if it wants to be a Budweiser commercial or a PSA…” another fan said.

One person wrote on X saying, “I thought this was fake at first. Wow, that was bad,” while someone else added: “This is it? This is the best Lucasfilm can do? I thought it was a lazy AI trailer.”
