Steam has revealed its list of the best-selling games of 2025, revealing two indie hits that exploded in popularity on the platform. They both happen to come from Australian developers.
2025 has been a banner year for video games. From breakout success stories like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and ARC Raiders to flavor-of-the-month highlights like Peak and Megabonk, there’s been something for everyone.
Many of these games have certainly turned a pretty penny as a result of their popularity. And while revenue isn’t everything, it is indeed a key factor in determining the most significant releases of a given year.
In 2025, some AAA juggernauts raked in millions as the likes of Battlefield 6 and Monster Hunter Wilds set the charts on fire. However, as we now know, two independent teams managed to crack the best-sellers list on Steam, ranking among the biggest financial successes of the year.
Schedule 1 & Hollow Knight: Silksong rank in Steam’s best-sellers of 2025
To round out the year, Valve always shares a look at the top sellers and most-played games of the year. It also highlights the best-selling new releases, meaning games that launched in the given calendar year.
12 games make the top tier (Platinum), and they’re listed in a random order. For 2025, expected juggernauts like ARC Raiders, FC 26, and Borderlands 4 made the cut. However, alongside eight publisher-backed games, two indie gems generated enough revenue to make the list.
Hollow Knight: Silksong and Schedule 1 both feature among the 12 highest-grossing games on Steam in 2025. The list accounts for total revenue, making the feat all the more remarkable given they’re the two most affordable games on the list.
Team Cherry, a team of three, finally unleashed Silksong after an eight-year wait, going on to sell over seven million copies across all platforms in its first four months on the market. It reached this figure while also being available at no extra cost on Game Pass.
Meanwhile, Schedule 1 came out of nowhere from a lone Aussie developer. The Early Access project released its initial build back in March and quickly became a breakout success, generating tens of millions in revenue. To be ranked among the 12 best-sellers of the year, it’s clearly enjoying a long-tailed success ahead of its full release in the coming years.
