The Stranger Things finale tied up multiple loose ends, but some characters were left hanging, and now co-creators the Duffer brothers are revealing all.
Stranger Things concluded with happy endings for some characters, tragic fates for others, and an ambiguous destiny for one specific character.
We didn’t find out what happened to villainous Dr. Kay and her military minions, which left fans frustrated.
Some of the more minor characters didn’t get personal moments as the series finale endeavoured to cram everything and everyonone in. But the Duffer brothers are now filling in those blanks…
Erica will be Hawkins High valedictorian
With her healthy attitude, strong opinions, and quick-witted put-downs, Erica became a popular and beloved Stranger Things character, but while she’s glimpsed at the end of the series, we don’t get info on her future.
But the Duffer brothers are confident she’ll be fine, with Ross Duffer telling Netflix: “Obviously, no one’s concerned about Erica. She can take care of herself. She’s gotta go through high school now, but she’s just so tough.”
While Matt Duffer sees success in her future, adding: “She’s absolutely going to be valedictorian. That is for sure. What happens beyond that, I don’t know. She can go where she wants to go.”
As for two of the older characters in the series, Matt Duffer says: “I do like that Murray and Mr. Clarke have bonded. But I think Murray’s doing his own weird stuff, and Mr. Clarke is likely still teaching. I think at his heart he loves educating kids.”
Stranger Things promised several dates across its five seasons, and during the climax, we finally got to see Hopper and Joyce at Enzo’s. Though there was no sign of Robin and Vickie at the same restaurant, even though Robin vowed they would go.
Max and Lucas were also supposed to go to the movies together, until that Vecna-induced coma got in the way. But they made it, and the Duffers filmed it, but couldn’t find space for the scene during the finale, as they explain:
Ross Duffer: They had a movie date that had been planned for a very long time, so it was nice to finally get to see them go to that film.
Matt Duffer: And they’re watching Ghost.
Ross Duffer: We don’t show it.
Matt Duffer: We filmed it. It was a very romantic scene from Ghost, but then it just kind of took away from their own moment. But that is the movie they’re seeing.
Trouble is, that doesn’t quite fit the Stranger Things timeline, as Season 5 is set in 1987, and Ghost hit screens in the summer of 1990, which would therefore mean that the couple waited three entire years to go to the movies.
