The Stranger Things finale featured action, horror, drama, and death, but a plot hole concerning a villainous character has fans annoyed. Meaning SPOILERS ahead…

It’s been nearly 10 years coming, but the final episode of Stranger Things delivered, with pretty much every character getting a satisfying conclusion.

Vecna was defeated when Joyce chopped off his head, and she got her happy ending via engagement to Hopper. The kidnapped kids were all rescued. The Hawkins heroes managed to move on. And Eleven might be living her best life in a new location.

But one character was seriously underserved by the series finale, and fans are calling it an unforgivable plot hole.

Dr. Kay didn’t get the ending she deserved

There was excitement when Terminator star Linda Hamilton was cast as new Stranger Things villain Dr. Kay, and big chunks of Season 5 concerned her pursuit of Eleven.

But in the concluding episode, she’s largely a bystander – most notably when Eleven seals herself in the Upside Down – and we get little sense of what happens to Kay or her military minions after that moment.

Instead, the series jumps forward 18 months, Kay and her soldiers are nowhere to be seen, and the Upside Down disaster is explained away as an earthquake. And the Stranger Things collective isn’t happy with this lack of closure.

“What happened to Dr. Kay?” writes one, “Dr. Kay and the military just disappeared?” asks another, one fan deems her “the most pointless character in TV history,” while she’s also called “the worst-written character of all time,” because “she is so evil, for no reason.”

There’s also frustration with the Kay threads that are left dangling. “Who even is Dr. Kay, why is she here?” asks one fan, while another writes: “Why Dr. Kay didn’t tell the soldiers to leave the kids so they could stop El? She just watched the entire thing and did nothing? She was obsessed with finding her and then she did nothing?”

But most of all, Stranger Things viewers wanted to see the character meet a grisly death. “So you’re telling me Dr. Kay got away with it all in the end?” was a level-headed reaction, while others were more extreme.

“Dr Kay didn’t even f**king die?!??? I needed to see her neck snap,” said one fan, while another concurred: “The only thing I didn’t like about the Stranger Things finale is we didn’t get to see El snap Dr. Kay’s neck.”
