The last ever episode of Stranger Things is just around the corner, and ahead of the Season 5 finale’s release, Netflix has quietly fixed a continuity error related to Holly Wheeler (Nell Fisher).
After a decade of epic television, Stranger Things is drawing to a close, with Season 5 Episode 8 – titled ‘The Rightside Up’ – set to drop on Netflix on New Year’s Eve at 5pm PT/8pm ET.
Alongside the streaming release, over 1.1 million fans are expected to watch the finale in their local cinema, after Netflix announced that select theaters across the US and Canada would be screening the episode.
Ahead of the epic final showdown between our heroes and Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower), a minor error has been rectified after fans pointed it out on social media. Warning: spoilers ahead!
Stranger Things Season 5 Holly Wheeler error fixed
In Season 5 Episode 7, ‘The Bridge’, Holly Wheeler was seen wearing an Under Armour branded shirt while trying to break free from Vecna’s pod, despite the fact that the sportswear company hadn’t even launched yet.
The Stranger Things cast generally don’t wear branded clothing to maintain the show’s 1980s setting and steer clear of accidental product placement. But this find was particularly noticeable as Volume 2 is set in 1987 – and Under Armour was founded in 1996.
Eagle-eyed fans noticed the error, with X user Molusco posting screenshots online. “Stranger Things fans on social media have discovered a glaring Easter egg in Episode 7 of the fifth season,” he wrote.
“At the 4:21 minute mark, Holly is seen trying to escape Vecna’s webs while wearing an Under Armour brand blouse, which is not supposed to have existed in 1987, the year in which the series is set.”
The post has received dozens of comments, with one asking, “Is this equivalent to the Starbucks cup in Game of Thrones?”
“In the 80s, Vecna didn’t exist either, nor did children with powers,” another quipped, while some even suggested it was an intentional marketing move (FYI there’s no reason to believe this is true).
Since going viral, the error has been fixed. Now, when Holly breaks through the pod, the Under Armour logo has been removed from her sleeve.
One fan pointed this out under Molusco’s post, writing, “They fixed it. Went and edited it. Just finished our rewatch and it wasn’t there this go around.”
