The end is nigh for Stranger Things, and one of its main stars promises Season 5 won’t disappoint fans like the Game of Thrones finale.

Season 4 introduced Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower), the monstrous villain who has been pulling the strings of the Upside Down throughout the entire series, and his attack on Hawkins set the stage for a dramatic battle in Stranger Things Season 5.

The show started on Netflix back in 2016, propelling its young cast to stardom and becoming a pop culture phenomenon. The streamer is so confident about the final season that it gave it a bigger budget than Avengers: Endgame. So it’s fair to say that there’s a lot of pressure on the ending.

But the cast are optimistic about Stranger Things Season 5, and one major star promises it won’t disappoint fans like the final season of Game of Thrones.

Finn Wolfhard addresses concerns about Stranger Things Season 5 ending

Mike Wheeler star Finn Wolfhard didn’t tease what’s ahead for the Hawkins heroes, but he explained the cast was initially quite nervous about Stranger Things Season 5 disappointing fans.

“I think everyone was pretty worried, honestly,” he told TIME. “The way that Game of Thrones got torn to shreds in that final season, we’re all walking into this going, ‘We hope to not have that kind of thing happen.’

“But then we read the scripts. We knew that it was something special.”

Game of Thrones ended with a six-episode final season which saw Jon Snow (Kit Harington) murder Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) after she razed King’s Landing and murdered innocent civilians.

Then, Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead) was named as the new King. The final episode, ‘The Iron Throne’, was ranked the worst TV finale in history after a divisive poll.

It’s fair to say that Stranger Things Season 5 has built up the hype for the end of the season in a similar fashion to Game of Thrones, but Wolfhard and the cast seem confident that it’ll be a worthy finale.

Matarazzo, who plays Dustin Henderson, already welcomes the idea of returning to his character further down the line.

“I would love to play Dustin at another point in my life. It would definitely have to be a long time from now. But if in 15 years they call, I would be lying if I said I wouldn’t jump on that instantaneously.”
