Stranger Things is coming to an end this year, but an animated spinoff has been announced, and we now know who is starring as Hawkins’ finest.
We’re edging ever closer to the television event of the year, when across three volumes, Netflix sci-fi sensation Stranger Things will conclude.
Part 1 is dropping on November 26, Part 2 on December 25, and Part 3 on December 31, though there’s a sneaky way to watch the first five minutes of Episode 1 this week.
But while that’s the end of one story strand, an animated prequel is hitting the streamer in 2026, with all-new actors playing Will, Dustin, Mike, Lucas, Eleven, and Hopper.

What is the new animated series about?
Here’s the official synopsis for Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, as per Netflix: “Welcome back to Hawkins in the stark winter of 1985, where the original characters must fight new monsters and unravel a paranormal mystery terrorizing their town.“
Stranger Things creators Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer have revealed that the animated series will give context to the live-action series, by examining a missing period of time.
“The cartoon goes back and fills in a six-month gap that we weren’t able to explore,” Ross Duffer explained (via What’s On Netflix). “It’s fun because you get to see them as little kids again, but it’s not really again.”
In the above video, they say that the idea was to evoke the feeling of a 1980s cartoon, and that they had no limits in animation, so could just “go wild.”
“What we’ve been able to capture is the magic of Hawkins in a new way,” says showrunner and executive producer Eric Robles. “Our story takes place between Seasons 2 and 3, but we soon learn that nothing is quite as they thought it was.”
