Close to 25,000 Spectrum customers in Dallas, Texas, were left without internet because of a stray bullet. Seriously.

Having an internet outage when it’s beyond control can be anything from a small inconvenience to a major headache. It is especially annoying when you’ve followed all the support steps and got your WiFi router in a position where it shouldn’t be blocked.

When it’s out of your control, however, that’s when the outages are at their worst. We’ve seen outages caused by extreme weather, mistakes by technicians, and pretty much everything in between.

Well, in Dallas, Texas, close to 25,000 Spectrum subscribers were left without internet for around three hours because of a stray bullet.

Dallas internet knocked offline by gun shot

Yes, that’s right, part of Spectrum’s service in Dallas was knocked offline because a bullet managed to find itself splitting through a fiber optic cable.

Residents of the Dallas-Fort Worth area had reported an outage on September 26, taking to DownDetector to report problems with their internet, TV, phone service, and even the company’s mobile app.

Spectrum restored the services within three hours, telling FOX4 that their team had made the “necessary repairs”. However, they did not reveal where exactly the damaged cable was situated.

As per TheRegister, it isn’t the first time that Spectrum’s service has been knocked offline by a gun-related incident.

In June, customers in Ohio were taken offline because several shotgun blasts damaged a cable line.

That wasn’t the first one of the year, either, or the first that the state had suffered. Residents in Columbus were taken offline for almost two days at the start of 2025 because of stray rounds damaging another line.

Dallas residents will be hoping that it doesn’t become a regular occurrence for them. Though, as noted, things have been fixed.
