One of the best scenes from Superman has reportedly been cut in India, with the country’s censorship board deeming it too “sensual” for audiences.

As per a Bollywood Hungama report, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) made several cuts to James Gunn’s movie. This included the removal of an eight-second “foul gesture” and other bad language. According to viewers, Guy Gardner’s middle-finger blast was cut.

Notably, board members requested that “sensual visuals” be cut. This resulted in two kiss scenes being drastically trimmed: Clark and Lois kissing in her apartment and the shot of them kissing in mid-air near the end of the movie.

A total of 33 seconds of kissing was removed from the Indian version of the movie, and fans are furious.

Superman’s kissing scenes censored in India

Superman passed with a U/A 13+ certificate in India, with 41 seconds of deletions in the final theatrical release.

“CBFC would allow horrific scenes of violence and sexual assault in a U-certified film that kids are freely allowed to watch, but won’t allow consensual kissing in a U/A comic book movie that kids should watch under adult supervision,” one user complained.

“Kissing is a sacred act of love, but our country makes it look like a crime. Internet can do wonders. The next movement should be started in order to abolish the CBFC,” another wrote, adding: “They ruined Oppenheimer, F1 and now Superman. We should have a CERTIFICATION BOARD, not a censor board.”

Oppenheimer had a rather infamous change for its Indian release: in Florence Pugh’s nude scenes, a black CGI bar appeared over her chest.

In F1, a scene of Brad Pitt’s character sending a middle finger emoji was changed to a fist bump (according to Bollywood Hungama, the studio self-censored the film before submitting it to the CBFC in anticipation of them asking it to be removed anyway).

“As a mark of protest, people should take selfies while kissing each other during the Superman shows. And tag CBFC,” another user suggested.

“CBFC is so dogsh*t in our country. So many other stories just pending to be released because these guys just won’t give them the certificate,” a fourth posted.
