Superman star Rachel Brosnahan has called out actors who accept roles in comic book movies, then throw those films under the bus when they fail.

Superhero movies have been widely criticised of late, with critics and audiences alike bemoaning the quality of recent Marvel and DC movies.

The stars of those movies have also been having their say, with Sydney Sweeney joking that “you definitely didn’t see me in Madame Web,” on SNL, and Dakota Johnson saying of the same film: “Art does not do well when it’s made by committee.”

But one actor is clapping back at such comments, on the eve of her first superhero movie’s release.

New Lois Lane doesn’t want your superhero movie complaints

Rachel Brosnahan plays Lois Lane opposite David Corenswet’s Superman this summer, and during a conversation with Amanda Sefried for Interview Magazine, stated her belief that actors should stand by the work.

When Seyfried claims that you can tell when people are doing a comic book movie with “passion and grace and curiosity,” Brosnahan responds with: “I don’t know why people say yes only to then turn around and complain about it.”

She then reiterates her position by adding: “Look, I don’t want to sh*t on other actors, but there was a minute where it was cool to not like superhero movies and to look back on projects like this and pooh-pooh them. Do it or don’t do it, and then stand by it.”

Rachel Brosnahan’s Krypto was a person in a suit

Brosnahan then expresses excitement over what’s in the new Superman movie, saying: “The cool thing about it is that it’s what you expect, and then there’s more. Of course, there’s great fighting and stunts and big monsters and good and evil.”

There’s also a dog – or what’s actually a super-powered canine – in the shape of Krypto, though the actress says there were times when the animal was played by a human.

“He’s so cute,” says Brosnahan. “But at least in my scene, there were limitations with the set that meant I couldn’t shoot with the stand-in. There was a stand-in dog, but sometimes there was also a person in a CGI suit who played the dog, and then sometimes there was nothing, so I’ve never felt like a worse actor in my entire life.”
