A Florida teenager confessed to tearing up a golf course by doing donuts in a truck, causing more than $160,000 in damage because they were “bored,” according to police.
Deputies were called to the New Smyrna Beach Golf Club early Sunday after staff discovered deep tire marks and gouged earth on the green.
Investigators said the course was so badly damaged that crews had to start emergency repairs immediately, with early estimates placing the total cost of restoration at around $160,000.
Teen admitted to deputies there was “nothing else to do”
Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said the teen confessed to driving onto the course around 2:30am and spinning the truck across the greens.
“He confessed to causing the damage because they were bored,” Chitwood said, per ClickOrlando. “Didn’t think there was anything else to do at 2:30 in the morning,” he added.
In a November 10 Facebook post, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office named the teen as Keller Adkins. “A 17-year-old has been charged with causing $161K in damage to the Venetian Bay golf course in New Smyrna Beach. Keller Adkins is charged with felony criminal mischief.”
Adkins faces a felony criminal mischief charge. The truck used in the incident has been seized as part of the investigation.
