Terrifier creator Damien Leone has big news concerning Terrifier 4, including confirmation that the forthcoming horror sequel will conclude the lucrative franchise.

The Terrifier series has been a genre phenomenon, grossing more than $100 million across three movies that had a combined budget of just just over $2 million.

The movies launched Art the Clown as a horror icon, and featured kills as inventive as they were extreme.

Writer-director Damien Leone has previously stated he might make two more Terrifier movies to finish telling Art’s tale, but now it sounds like the franchise will end with the next instalment.

Damien Leone calls Terrifier 4 the “finale”

Using Facebook to end speculation and issue an update around “false information out there,” Damien Leone writes that the Terrifier 4 “script is very close to completion, and I’m hoping to begin pre-production this spring.”

He continues: “This is the most precious script I’ve written for many reasons, but it’s also the most challenging. There’s a lot of material to tackle and a lot riding on this one, not just creatively but emotionally.”

As for 4 being the final film, here’s the key sentences: “We’ve built something special together over the years. The cast and crew who have been here since the beginning deserve a finale that honors their dedication, and the fans who’ve championed this franchise deserve something unforgettable.”

Leone adds that he’s “thrilled with the way it’s turning out,” and says he’s “confident it will deliver.” He ends by stating that an official announcement will happen when the script is complete.

As for what to expect from the final instalment, Leone previously told Collider that Part 4 will feature Art’s back story: “I think there’s a way with his origin to have my cake and eat it too, but we’ll find out. I am taking a bit of a risk, but I’m very well aware about losing that mystique at the same time, so we’ll see if it plays out. I think the majority of people are going to be very cool with it.”
