Texas has filed a lawsuit against Roblox, accusing the company of deceiving parents and endangering children on what it calls a “digital playground overrun by predators.”
Filed on November 6, 2025, by Attorney General Ken Paxton, the 72-page petition claims Roblox violated the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act by marketing itself as the world’s safest gaming platform for kids while knowingly allowing sexual content, grooming, and child exploitation to thrive.
Texas says Roblox put profit before child safety
The petition alleges Roblox “knowingly enabled sexual exploitation and abuse of children” through a platform that lets adults and minors freely interact without proper moderation or age checks. It cites explicit “experiences” such as strip-club simulators and “Epstein Island” recreations, and claims predators used the game’s virtual currency, Robux, to lure and extort minors.
According to the state, Roblox executives were aware of these dangers but prioritized growth and revenue, cutting safety costs while assuring families it “takes every precaution possible.” The lawsuit highlights an “aging up” strategy launched after Roblox went public in 2021, designed to attract older users who “monetize better,” even as the company admitted most of its 80 million daily players were under 18.
Texas also accuses Roblox of deceiving Apple, Google, and Microsoft by downplaying sexual and mature content to secure “12+” and “Teen” ratings. Despite recent policy changes, the filing says Roblox’s reforms are “far too little, far too late.”
The state is seeking up to $10,000 per violation, a permanent injunction, and a judicial declaration that Roblox is a public nuisance, claiming it built a “multibillion-dollar digital hellscape that preys on innocence under the banner of play.”
