Erin Moriarty – best known for playing Annie January, aka Starlight, in The Boys – has opened up about being diagnosed with Graves’ disease and shared a warning with her fans.
Right now, Moriarty joins the rest of the cast on the set of The Boys Season 5, which is set to bring the flagship series to an end with the ultimate supe showdown.
Season 4 ended with the new president announcing martial law, while Homelander led a division of superheroes to find and capture “Starlighters”. Annie herself managed to fly away in the nick of time, leaving her wide open to fight in the fifth and final chapter.
In real life, Moriarty has shared a personal battle of her own, taking to Instagram to write, “A month ago, I was diagnosed with Graves’ disease. Within 24 hours of beginning treatment, I felt the light coming back on.”

Moriarty also used her post to raise awareness about autoimmune diseases, urging readers to get checked if they are feeling fatigued or experiencing any symptoms.
“Autoimmune disease manifests differently in everybody/every body. Your experience will be different from mine. My experience will be different from yours. Perhaps greatly, perhaps minutely,” she said.
“One thing I can say: if I hadn’t chalked it all up to stress and fatigue, I would’ve caught this sooner. A month ago, I was diagnosed with Graves’ disease. Within 24 hours of beginning treatment, I felt the light coming back on. It’s been increasing in strength ever since.
“If yours is dimming, even slightly, go get checked. Don’t ‘suck it up’ and transcend suffering; you deserve to be comfy. Sh*t’s hard enough as is.”
Graves’ disease is an autoimmune disorder that causes the thyroid gland to become overactive – a condition known as hyperthyroidism.
It occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks the thyroid, causing it to produce more thyroid hormones than the body needs.
This can lead to a wide range of symptoms, including fatigue, anxiety, weight loss, rapid heartbeat, tremors, and sensitivity to heat.
Though it can be serious if left untreated, Graves’ disease can be managed with medications, radioactive iodine therapy, or, in some cases, surgery.
Moriarty has received an influx of support from her fans, with one writing on her post, “So happy you’re on the road to healing.” Another said, “Be well ocean buddy. Sending so much love and support.”
The Boys Season 5 doesn’t have a release date yet, but it’s expected to drop on Prime Video sometime in 2026.
