As one of the longest-running and most beloved comic strips of all time, Peanuts has certainly been reprinted in many forms over the years. But if you're a discerning Snoopy fan, you might want to add The Essential Peanuts to your collection. Rarely has the series looked this good.
With The Essential Peanuts now in stores, IGN can exclusively debut a new preview of the book. Check it out in the slideshow gallery below:
Timed to the 75th anniversary of the series' debut, The Essential Peanuts reprints several hundred pages' worth of Charles Schulz's classic Peanuts strips alongside new content providing historical and cultural context. The new content is written by comics historian Mark Evanier. The book also features an introduction by Mutts creator Patrick McDonnell, a foreword by Jean Schulz, design work by Chip Kidd, and contributions from Robb Armstrong, Derrick Bang, Rob Boutilier, Paige Braddock, Alberto Brambilla, Benjamin L. Clark, Alexis E. Fajardo, Ben Folds, Sarah Gillespie, Chip Kidd, Amy Lago, Mike Massimino, Akio Matsunaga, Jeff Morrow, Hilary B. Price, and Shuntarō Tanikawa. The book is published by Abrams ComicArts.
Alongside the hardcover itself, The Essential Peanuts includes a slipcase and a portfolio of extras like postcards, art prints, an iron-on patch, stickers, and a facsimile of a classic Peanuts comic book.
“Having loved Peanuts since I was about Charlie Brown's age (and no more successful at kite-flying), I was thrilled when Abrams ComicArts asked me to spend weeks reading and writing about the comic strip that was so much more than just a comic strip,” said Evanier in a statement. “The only drawback was that I tried writing the book sitting on the roof of a doghouse, but I kept falling off.”
The Essential Peanuts is available in stores now. You can order a copy on Amazon.
