There isn’t a main Fallout Colorado game, but there is a strange spinoff in the long-running franchise that is possibly the weirdest title of the bunch… And now it’s become vital for Fallout Season 3.
Fallout Season 2 has mainly relied on that sweet, sweet New Vegas nostalgia as Prime Video have brought the iconic location to life as Lucy MacLean (Ella Purnell) and the Ghoul (Walton Goggins) head to the city in search of Hank MacLean (Kyle MacLachlan). The show utilized some staples of the franchise, like Deathclaws, a Power-Fist, and those cool New California Republic Rangers.
It’s fair to say that when most fans think of the Fallout games, they mainly think of the newer titles like Fallout 3, New Vegas, Fallout 4, and Fallout 76. But in case it wasn’t obvious, the series has existed long before those were ever released.
Now, the end of Fallout Season 2 revealed that the story is heading to a new location: Colorado. While casual fans might not think the franchise has been there before, the Fallout Colorado game is one of the weirdest adventures in the entire saga.
The Fallout Colorado game revolves around Vault 0
Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel is a turn-based tactical game published by 14 Degrees East for PC in 2001 and revolves around a squad of Brotherhood members as they search for Vault 0 in the Cheyenne Mountain Complex. It’s a little different to the other Vaults in the franchise, as this one contained all the Vault-Tec leadership and also housed government and military officials.
Vault 0 is hidden in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, which is exactly where the Ghoul is headed in search of his wife, Barbara (Frances Turner) and his daughter Janey (Teagan Meredith). If the TV show is sticking to the lore of Fallout Tactics, then it would make sense why Barabra left for Vault 0 since she’s one of the higher-ups at Vault-Tec.
Although it’s unclear why she didn’t initially head there instead of the Management Vault in Vegas. Maybe she just didn’t have time in the wake of the bombs dropping. Regardless, Fallout Tactics is one of the weirder chapters in the franchise, largely because it steps away from the RPG elements of the other games, mainly to focus on the turn-based combat and strategy — which creates a different experience than searching for armor, weapons, and ammo.
During the campaign, players also come up against opponents called Beastlords who can control animals, including Deathclaws. Yes, you heard that right, they have obedient Deathclaws. The story culminates in the reveal that an entity from Vault 0 called the Calculator is commanding an army of robots.
The villain is the result of an experiment which fused computers and the brains of the Vault’s inhabitants together… so maybe it’s a good thing Barbara wasn’t there in the first place.
The show has already implied that the Enclave has a complex in the Rocky Mountains, so it’s possible that it might streamline some of the lore surrounding Fallout Tactics to make it fit the storyline. But it’s clear from the first two seasons that the showrunners and writers have a lot of reverence for the franchise, so it seems unlikely that they would majorly retcon the spinoff game.
