The Last of Us 2 Remastered just got a free update, and it’s hiding a slick crossover bonus.
Back in 2014, The Last of Us Remastered brought the PS3 classic to PS4 with updated visuals, 1080p resolution, and new features like Photo Mode. Then, in 2024, The Last of Us 2 received the same treatment. It included the full campaign, “Left Behind,” all multiplayer DLC, and developer commentary. It was the definitive way to experience Joel and Ellie’s journey.
Naughty Dog added a new Chronological Mode on July 8, letting players experience the game’s full story in linear timeline order. It’s a fresh perspective and there’s a reward tucked inside for fans who finish it.
If the timeline hopping in The Last of Us Part 2 drove you up the wall, this update has your back. It also has your back if you’ve ever wanted to see Joel and Tommy cosplay as Nathan and Sam Drake.
New mode, new perspective, and secret Uncharted skins
Play through the new start-to-finish retelling of Ellie and Abby’s arcs, and you’ll unlock two Uncharted-themed skins, one for each brother. It’s a cheeky reward pulled straight from Naughty Dog’s other hit franchise, and a nice nod to fans who’ve stuck with both series.
Joel gets Nathan Drake’s outfit. Tommy gets Sam’s. You can use them in No Return, the game’s roguelike survival mode, adding a strange sense of adventure to the apocalypse.
This marks the first time Uncharted characters have been visually referenced inside The Last of Us. It’s a crossover that celebrates Naughty Dog’s 40th anniversary with a nostalgic nod to its other iconic franchise.
The update also includes new trophies tied to Chronological Mode, improvements to No Return, and performance fixes on both PS5 and PC.
