The Legend of Zelda live-action movie is taking shape, and after much speculation, we finally know who has been cast as Link and Zelda.

As one of Nintendo’s longest-running and most popular video game franchises, it’s no surprise that there’s a lot riding on the Zelda film.

A lot of the speculation has centered around the cast, who will play an integral role in bringing the characters to life on the big screen.

Euphoria star Hunter Schafer was the favorite to play the titular princess, but a casting call revealed the team were looking for younger stars to take on the role. And now they’ve found their leading duo.

On July 16, 2025, Nintendo released a statement from Shigeru Miyamoto, who revealed that Zelda and Link will be played by Bo Bragason and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, respectively.

“This is Miyamoto. I am pleased to announce that for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda, Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason-san, and Link by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth-san,” he said.

“I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen… The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 7, 2027. Thank you for your patience.”

The announcement has sparked plenty of excitement among fans, with one writing, “Not a bad choice at all! Looking forward to this.” Another said, “Interesting. Looks pretty much like how I’d picture the characters in real life.”

A third added, “Wow perfect casting feels real now! Can’t wait to see Bo and Benjamin bring Hyrule to life on the big screen!”

Others are disappointed after hoping to see Schafer take on the role, including this person who said, “Miyamoto-San, with all due respect I think I can speak for ALL Nintendo and Zelda fans that we wanted Hunter Schafer to play the role of Zelda.”

Who is Bo Bragason?

Bo Bragason is a 21-year-old English actress best known for roles in the BBC show Three Girls and as Roxy Trotter in the Disney+ series Renegade Nell. She also appeared in the 2021 horror Censor and the vampire comedy flick The Radleys.

Her casting has received a positive reaction, with many saying she resembles the elf-like princess. “Very Twilight princess coded,” said one fan, with another commenting, “Looks like a perfect match!”
