Oh yes, Dr. Jack Abbot (Shawn Hatosy) is making his triumphant return in The Pitt Season 2 Episode 7, as revealed in the new preview from HBO Max. And there’s one moment in particular that has fans losing it.
Much like the staff of Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, The Pitt viewers need some much-needed levity after the seriousness of the subject matter. This rings especially true for Season 2 Episode 6, which saw the tragic death of longtime patient Louie.
But that doesn’t mean Dr. Robby and co. have time to slow down. On the contrary, it’s all systems go in the next hour as the hospital deals with an influx of diverted patients amid a code black situation.
And it looks like the bad news just keeps on coming, as a new character arrives to share a mysterious announcement. But there is some light, with a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it clip sparking a theory about fan fave Dr. Abbot.
The Pitt Season 2 Episode 7 preview sparks Abbot & Mohan theory
If you cut to the 00:28 timestamp on The Pitt Season 2 Episode 7 preview, you’ll see a (literal) one-second clip showing Dr. Abbot taking his shirt off – just as Dr. Samira Mohan (Supriya Ganesh) walks in.
He does appear to have an injury on his back, so in all likelihood she’s just treating him. But given Dr. Abbot and Dr. Mohan are arguably the biggest romantic ship in the entire HBO Max series, it’s enough to send fans reeling.
As said by one, “OMG ABBOT AND SAMIRA CRUMBS 0:28,” suggesting the show is giving us a hint that their relationship could be more than professional.
Another wrote (also in caps), “WAS THAT SAMIRA OPENING UP THE CURTAINS TO A SHIRTLESS ABBOT?? I’m afraid I’m not gonna make it fam.”
A TikTok edit also includes the clip, to which one replied, “MOHABBOT SHIPPERS RISE,” and another said, “OHH MOHABBOT SHIPPERS WE EATING GOOD.” A third simply stated, “Mohabbot? I’m losing it!”
This is the general sentiment about Abbot’s return, with many joking that “Daddy’s home.”
The Mohabbot ship has been going since The Pitt Season 1, when Abbot guided Mohan through an experimental heart procedure. They clearly have a mutual respect for one another, but a couple of shared looks left fans speculating whether there could be more.
Dr. Mohan star Supriya Ganesh teased a potential romance amid the debut of Season 2, telling E!, “Samira is just so focused on work that she doesn’t really notice, at least last season, that something might be going on.
“I do think there’s an interesting dynamic that plays out between them, where he has so much respect for her and he really believes in her.”
She then commented on the fact that her character might be more open to subtle hints dropped by Abbot, stating, “I definitely think that that adds to their dynamic. I’m excited to explore that this season.”
Abbot wastes no time in The Pitt return
Beyond the potential Mohabbot breadcrumbs, fans are praising the moment Dr. Abbot claps back at newcomer Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi in the Season 2 Episode 7 preview.
When she walks in on him working on a patient, she says, “What is going on here?” It then cuts to Abbot continuing the procedure while saying, “You must be Gloria’s new hire,” followed by a sassy smile.
As we know, Dr. Al-Hashimi has been clashing with Dr. Robby throughout Season 2, questioning his calls and pushing for AI-based technologies to assist with workflow.
By calling her “Gloria’s new hire,” Abbot is not-so-subtly suggesting she’s an outsider brought in by hospital leadership rather than someone who understands how the ER actually operates.
In the comments section, one viewer wrote, “‘You must be Gloria’s new hire.’ One line in and Dr. Jack Abbot is chewing the scene up like a donut.”
Another commented, “Daddy! Finally! If Jack Abbot isn’t in all nine episodes left this season I’m going to throw a brick at my TV,” while a third quipped, “What’s with that smirk Dr. Jack Abbot, meow.”
One person also suggested that the man who arrives on the scene later in the trailer could be something to do with Dr. Al-Hashimi.
“I got a feeling whoever the guy is that called for the meeting has a close relationship with Dr. Al-Hashimi,” they wrote. “She absolutely called in a favor with Dr. Robby and Abbot outnumbering her in the ER.”
