Dexter has spawned multiple TV spinoffs, as well as an unheralded web series that you can watch for free online.

Dexter launched on Showtime in 2006, and ran for eight seasons and 96 episodes, until the show was cancelled in 2013.

But the story didn’t end there for the titular serial killer, as sequel series’ Dexter: New Blood, and Dexter: Resurrection followed, as did prequel show Dexter: Original Sin.

The latter wasn’t the first time that the character’s past was mined for material, as an animated comic previously delved into his early years…

Dexter Early Cuts is available on YouTube

Dexter Early Cuts is a web series that launched in 2009, and was narrated by star Michael C. Hall.

Each episode was 2-3 minutes long, and focussed on different people that a younger Dexter killed, as well as his reasons for murdering them, giving context and back story to those blood slides that the character hides behind his AC unit.

The first four episodes of Season 1 revolved around Alex Timmons, a marine who gave into his dark urges and started killing for sport. The next four concerned Gene Marshall, and the final four centred on Cindy Landon.

Two more seasons followed in 2010 and 2012, with Season 2 titled ‘Dark Echo,’ and Season 3 called ‘All in the Family.’

The different stories had different writers and illustrators, meaning style and form vary from season to season.

Showtime dropped them all on YouTube at the time, as a way of promoting the live-action TV show, and they’re still on that platform, so while you wait for your next hit of Resurrection – which should arrive in 2026 – you can watch all of Early Cuts now.
