Trey Parker and Matt Stone are back with South Park Season 27, and Episode 1 is a firm contender for the most outrageous TV episode of the year – so, here’s how you can watch it for free.
There’s been a lot of drama behind the scenes of South Park (and Paramount) over the past few months. Fans expected it to drop on Paramount Plus after HBO Max’s rights expired, but complications arose from Skydance Media’s bid to acquire the company – and Parker and Stone were not happy, threatening legal action over “interference” in the show’s availability on streaming.
Hours before the 27th season premiered, Parker and Stone inked a $1.5 billion licensing deal with Paramount Plus. That includes all 26 previous seasons, and new episodes will stream on the platform after they air on Comedy Central.
In other words, they sorted things out, and if you want to watch Season 27 Episode 1, you may even be able to see it for free.
How to watch South Park Season 27 Episode 1 for free
If you don’t have cable or you missed its airing on Comedy Central, South Park Season 27 Episode 1 is available on Paramount Plus – and there are two free trials available.
You can get a seven-day free trial directly via the streaming service: just go to the website and sign up, and you’ll get a whole week free of charge.
If you want more time to sample the platform’s library without committing to the direct debit, Walmart Plus subscribers can get a 30-day free trial – and, if you’re not already signed up, Walmart Plus offers a 30-day free trial too, so you could watch four weeks of new South Park episodes without paying a dime.
Of course, there’s just one important thing to remember: you’ll need to provide your payment details before your free trial period begins, so if you forget to cancel it, you’ll be charged for a month.
Why is everyone talking about South Park Season 27 Episode 1?
The first episode of South Park 27 is especially incendiary, as it targets US President Donald Trump (in one scene, he lies in bed with Satan, and a fake promotional ad shows him stumbling through the desert naked before his penis says he “endorses this message”).
“Trump: His penis is teeny-tiny, but his love for us is large,” the voiceover says.
The episode, titled ‘Sermon on the Mount’, revolves around Cartman’s favorite radio show being canceled by Trump, and Jesus pleading with the town’s people to stop protesting against the president. Trump sues South Park for $5 billion, but they settle for $3.5 billion and agree to include “pro-Trump messaging” in future public service announcements.
This is a clear reference to CBS (owned by Paramount) axing Stephen Colbert’s late-night show (the host has been critical of the president on-air), coming after Paramount settled a lawsuit against 60 Minutes’ interview with Kamala Harris, which Trump claimed to be “election interference.”
That’s just the tip of the iceberg, so if you want to find out why it’s become such a hot talking point on social media, stream it now.
