A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms just launched with an enjoyably understated debut episode that deftly introduced Dunk and Egg, and if you haven’t yet watched it, there’s a cheeky way to view the season premiere for free.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a new kind of George R.R. Martin adaptation, one that plays out in Westeros, but focuses on two central characters rather than a huge ensemble.
Events play out between House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones, and focus on a ‘Hedge Night‘ called Ser Duncan (Paul Claffey), and his young squire Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell).
Episode 1 just dropped on HBO Max, but if you are sneaky, there’s a way to watch the show without an expensive subscription to those services.
How to watch A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms for free
If you don’t already subscribe to HBO Max, there are still a couple of legitimate ways to stream A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms without paying up front, the most reliable being with a TV streaming service that includes it as an add-on.
For instance, YouTube TV is currently offering a 21-day free trial for new users, and you can add HBO Max to your membership during the period. That gives you temporary access to the full HBO Max library – including A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms – before you need to decide whether to continue with a paid plan.
To do this, go to the YouTube TV homepage and click the “Try 21 days for $0” button. You’ll be asked to sign in to your YouTube account (which probably means just linking your Google account), before being taken to a screen that looks like this:
Next, scroll down until you find the “Add to Membership” section. Find a show that airs on HBO or HBO Max, and from there, it’s pretty simple to add it to your plan in your free trial period.
It’s worth noting that you’ll need to sign up for the YouTube TV trial and add HBO Max to your plan while the trial is active, then make sure to cancel before the trial ends if you don’t want to be charged.
Also, since Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is six episodes long, you’ll only be able to use this method to either a) watch the first half of the season or b) wait until the final episodes are out and binge-watch the whole lot in one go.
If you go with the first option, just note that YouTube TV will cost you at least $49.99 per month, which goes up to $82.99 after three months, whereas HBO Max starts at just $10.99 per month with ads, so be sure to work out the most cost-effective plan for you.
You may also find third-party promotions and bundle perks that include access. For example, Cricket Wireless customers on the Supreme Unlimited plan are eligible for a free HBO Max Basic with Ads subscription.
If you’re already a Cricket customer but not on the Supreme Unlimited plan, you can change your plan to get the streaming service included here.
For those of you who are, what you need to do is login to or create an account on HBO Max. Then, hit “Connect Your Provider”, select “Cricket” on the list, login with your Cricket Wireless username and password, and watch away.
