Sadie Sink is confirmed to appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but her exact role is yet to be officially revealed. Thanks to a new rumor, we may know the answer.
The MCU’s next Spider-Man movie has a stacked cast: Holland is back, along with Zendaya (MJ) and Jacob Batalon (Ned), while Jon Bernthal (The Punisher), Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk), and Michael Mando (Scorpion) will also appear.
The biggest question mark hangs over Sink. The Stranger Things star joined the cast in March this year, with basically no details about who she’s playing or if she’ll be in the franchise in a wider capacity beyond Brand New Day.
There have been loads of predictions, like Gwen Stacy, Jean Grey, Mayday Parker, and even another version of MJ. However, what if it’s someone else entirely?
Sadie Sink rumored to play “Carly” in Spider-Man: Brand New Day
According to Divinity Seeker, Sink is rumored to play an amalgamation of two characters from the Marvel comics, and she’ll be called Carly in the film.
“Carly is a brilliant forensic scientist who becomes a mysterious ally to Peter Parker, but her impulsive investigative instincts lead her to uncover a shadowy organization – ultimately forcing her to seek Peter’s help to survive,” the page claims.
“Her true identity is unveiled in a jaw-dropping reveal at the film’s climax, and let’s just say she has deeply personal motivations for inserting herself into Peter’s world so abruptly. Expect the revelation of her character’s reveal to spill into Peter’s motivation to continue the fight for his future in the upcoming Avengers movies.”
So, what does this mean? One fan has predicted that Sink will be a mix of Carlie Cooper and Harry Osborn, especially because she appears in the Brand New Day storyline in the comics and Peter has yet to meet Harry in the MCU (and it’s unclear if he ever will, especially after he tangled with the original Green Goblin in No Way Home).
The Brand New Day storyline could be the inspiration for the film, considering part of its plot involves Spider-Man going on hiatus due to the implementation of the Superhuman Registration Act – which echoes the end of Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 and Kingpin outlawing vigilantism.
Carlie is a forensics expert (and a childhood friend of Gwen Stacy, who also hasn’t been introduced in the MCU) who finds a spider-tracer in a corpse’s mouth. This kicks off a large, shocking conspiracy that we won’t spoil, just in case it becomes part of the film’s plot, but here’s the important bit: in the comics, Carlie becomes a love interest for Peter.
To be clear, this should all be taken with a huge pinch of salt. Sink hasn’t given anything away regarding her role, telling Deadline in May: “I see a lot of rumors too. They’ve been really cool to read. I love the Marvel Universe. I mean they’re awesome rumors.”
