A new Flappy Bird-style game is turning foldable phones into the controller itself, and it is doing it in the most literal way possible.

The browser game, called Foldy Bird, is designed specifically for foldable phones and runs directly in Google Chrome. Unlike the original, which had players tap the screen to fly, players must physically fold and unfold their device to keep the bird in the air.

A video posted on January 2 showing off the game has gone viral and has even caught the attention of popular tech reviewer Marques Brownlee, who joked about what the game means for foldable durability.

“Phone companies: We’ve tested our hinge mechanism for 200,000 folds, so that should cover five years of use,” said Brownlee. He then joked that Foldy Bird would soon change that.

The game itself even warns players to play at their own risk, acknowledging that repeatedly snapping a foldable phone open and shut might not be ideal for long term durability.

So, you may want to consider the above before you go folding your phone for that high score, otherwise, you could be in for an expensive start to the New Year.

Foldy Bird isn’t the only game that has cropped up since the original was taken offline in 2014, as various clones have kept it going for more than a decade.

However, the latest game is yet another reminder that Flappy Bird’s influence still stretches far beyond its short time at the top of the App Store, and is still alive and flapping all these years later.
