Avengers: Doomsday will introduce Doctor Doom, the MCU’s biggest bad yet – and he may be relying on some classic villains to take on the X-Men.
With Doomsday and Secret Wars, Marvel’s Multiverse Saga will come to an end, but it’s going out with an enormous bang: Robert Downey Jr as Latveria’s scarred, masked ruler in another life, and he’ll go toe to toe with the X-Men, Avengers, Fantastic Four, and anyone else who stands in his way.
It’s still unclear exactly what will motivate Doom; could it be that he wants to prevent an incursion from wiping out his universe, so he wants to fight the person who manages the Sacred Timeline… paving the way for Loki’s return?
It’s been widely predicted that Doomsday will set the stage for a brawl between the Avengers and the X-Men, and Doom could use the Sentinels.
Doctor Doom rumored to use Sentinels to fight X-Men in Avengers: Doomsday
According to scooper Daniel Richtman, “Doom will use Sentinels in the film to attack the X-Men.”
This lines up with earlier leaked footage from the set of Doomsday, which appeared to show a Sentinel in the Xavier Institute’s garden.
For those who aren’t au fait with X-Men, Sentinels are basically mutant-hunting robots, and they’re incredibly strong (if you don’t believe me, watch the ‘Remember It’ episode of X-Men ’97). They appeared in Days of Future Past, but if they are Sentinels, they could look a bit different (and more comic-accurate) in Doomsday.
Sentinels are a substantial threat; they are sophisticated, versatile, and incredibly advanced machines designed to beat any mutant they find.
There’s another possibility: Doom could use Sentinels as his personal Doombots, equipped with similar abilities to the villain himself.
“Doom with his own Sentinel army vs. the X-Men in comic-accurate suits could be a top-tier moment in the MCU if done properly,” one fan commented.
“So will he have both Doombots and Sentinels or will Sentinels be the equivalent of Doombots?” another asked, and a third fan wrote: “Do the Russo Bros know that #DoctorDoom typically has Doombots as his personal henchman/army in the comics? Why would he use the Sentinels instead?”
Of course, this is still a rumor, and Doomsday may go in a completely different direction with Doom and the Sentinels. However, it’s looking like the X-Men may be doomed.
