Battlefield 6 features Open Weapons, which means any class can use any weapon. However, using a Sniper Rifle with any class other than Recon will randomly cause your bullets to miss.
Streamer Stodeh showed off the feature in an X post on October 13. Here, he took to the firing range and despite aiming directly at the target, the sniper bullet missed twice in a row before landing on the third attempt.
“Snipers are NOT 100% Accurate unless you are playing Recon class. Doesn’t say anywhere,” he said, tagging Florian ‘DRUNKKZ3’ Le Bihan, Battlefield 6’s principal gameplay designer. “If you use a sniper on any other class, you will randomly MISS even if completely still and controlling the sway.”
He later said this wasn’t in the beta and was “silently added” ahead of launch.
Bloom has been a controversial topic since the launch of Battlefield 6, where automatic weapons will have random bullet deviation to limit their effectiveness at range and encourage burst-fire. Now, it turns out it’s also applied to bolt-action rifles on all classes other than Recon, meaning you’ll completely miss a perfectly lined-up shot.
The Recon class is proficient with Sniper Rifles, which is described in-game as: “Improved marksmanship skills, including reduced weapon sway, quicker rechambering between shots, and better breath control for steadier aim.”
One player argued that the sway could be affecting the shot, but Stodeh replied, “Scope in for as long as you want. Use a bipod. Go prone. Do whatever you want. The shot will still miss every few attempts.”
BF6 players divided over sniper accuracy nerf
Players have mixed feelings about it. Some say that it makes sense, and players should be punished for using a weapon their chosen class isn’t proficient with. “I actually like that and it makes sense from a specialist perspective. This also goes nicely with weapons being opened [in my opinion],” said one reply.
“It makes sense if you really think about though. That [kind of] balances sniper spam since the classes are open,” said another.
Others have been pushing back against it, with one X/Twitter user asking, “Why is this a thing? Nobody asked for this.”
“People are trying to justify having random bullets that don’t go in the direction of aiming. Crazy,” replied another with the crying emoji.
DICE haven’t responded to sniper bloom yet, but in the meantime, Sniper Rifles are basically unusable with any other class than Recon, as you’ll end up missing shots you should have hit.
