Ticketmaster has claimed that they do “more than anyone to fight bots and get tickets into the hands of real fans” and have launched AI tools to assist with that.
Buying concert tickets can, at times, be a pretty stressful ordeal – especially if you’re looking to go to a big show. You’ve got to log in, join a queue, and hope that there are tickets available when it’s your turn to snap them up.
For a lot of people, they’ve seen those tickets end up in the hands of resellers who are looking to make fast money for their work. It’s incredibly annoying, especially if you’ve waited a long time to try and get those tickets.
Ticketmaster has previously been accused by users and the Federal Trade Commission of working with resellers to inflate ticket prices. However, the ticket-selling platform has hit back at that.
Following the FTC filing a lawsuit against Ticketmaster in September, they’ve now unveiled new tools to strike back at resellers and bot accounts.
Ticketmaster, at least in the United States, will be requiring resellers to use taxpayer ID verification, and will itself use AI tools for “faster assessment and cancellation of bot-purchased tickets.”
“Ticketmaster does more than anyone to fight bots and get tickets into the hands of real fans,” they said in a letter to US Senators, which was seen by Variety.
TradeDesk, a tool that allows resellers to track their ticket sales, will also be discontinued by Ticketmaster.
Live Nation have also been mentioned in a letter from the National Independent Venue Association, which accused both platforms of “being in bed” with resellers and scalpers.
