A TikToker has gotten some attention online after visiting a gas station that is brutally honest about selling out-of-date food, even though it might be illegal.

Whenever you pick up food or drinks, no matter what it is, you have to check that things aren’t too close to their best-before date. You don’t have to fork over plenty of hard-earned cash just to have a day left before you need to consume something.

There are some places that will play fast and loose with best-before dates, even selling products after they’ve supposedly expired. It is illegal in some parts of the United States, including Michigan.

However, that hasn’t stopped a gas station in Detroit from selling all sorts of foodstuffs beyond their best-before dates. And, it has been picked up by TikTok users.

TikTok praise honesty of gas station

In late September, TikToker sexxxiiyyycoco45, posted a clip of herself heading into a gas station to quench her “Laffy Taffy Cravings.” Yet, when she approached the snack aisle, she noticed a sign.

“Their sh*t says ‘out of date but still good.’ How you got all three shelves saying ‘out of date but still good’? This shit is crazy!” the TikToker said. “Then you go to the next aisle and all of this s*it says ‘out of date, but still good.’ I’m confused. S*it, I’m scared.”

Like the TikToker, many viewers couldn’t believe what they were seeing. “At least they up front with it, cos these others dont be saying nun,” one said. “I was just there the other day. Some lady was talking abt imma call the people,” another added.

The video, which has gotten around 100,000 views, was also picked up by WGRD in Detroit, who noted that it is a “gray area” as it is illegal to sell expired food.

However, there isn’t really a law about selling things that are just past their “best by” dates.
