A North Carolina TikToker with millions of followers has been hit with a massive $1.75 million judgment after a jury ruled she broke up a marriage by having an affair.
Brenay Kennard, known online as LifeOfBrenay, was sued in 2024 by her now-husband’s ex-wife, who accused the influencer of having an affair with him and ultimately destroying their marriage. Kennard boasts nearly 3 million followers across TikTok and Instagram, where she posts lifestyle, makeup, cooking, and mukbang content.
The suit was filed by Akira Montague, who claimed Kennard engaged in an affair with her then-husband, Timothy Montague, long before their divorce.
North Carolina is one of the few states that still allows people to sue for alienation of affection and criminal conversation. Both laws, which date back to the 1850s, let a spouse seek damages from the person they believe interfered in their marriage.

According to court filings, Akira said Kennard publicly flaunted the relationship, made content with Timothy while he was still married, and even posted photos of her children without permission. She alleged that Kennard “engaged in behaviour designed to seduce” Timothy and showed off their alleged affair both online and in public.
During the trial, Timothy took the stand and testified that he never truly loved his ex-wife, telling the court they were “just like roommates” and that he proposed with “the cheapest ring” he could find.
Prosecutors also presented footage showing Kennard allegedly twerking on Timothy in a bathroom.
The case remained a civil matter. Despite the accusations, Kennard did not face criminal charges.
On November 10, 2025, after more than a year and a half of legal battles, a Durham County jury found Kennard liable on both counts.
She was ordered to pay $1.5 million for alienation of affection and $250,000 for criminal conversation.
