Limited edition steelbooks are often the highlights of any physical movie collection. These steelbooks include the same 4K disc you’d get in a standard 4K UHD purchase, just in a sturdy special edition case that feaures exclusive artwork. They also occasionally come with bonuses like posters or additional special features, which apparently gives every distributor an excuse to tack on some ludicrous pricing.
That’s why I was surprised to see just so many limited edition steelbooks included in Amazon’s Buy 2, Get 1 Free sale. This is by far one of the best deals we’ve seen during October Prime Day, particularly because you don’t need to be a Prime member to shop it. Just add three eligible items to your cart, and if a 4K or Blu-ray steelbook happens to be the cheapest, you’ll get it for free.
Tons of Steelbooks Are Included in Amazon’s Buy 2, Get 1 Free Deal
A personal Prime Day highlight has been the amount of discounts on anime. One of the most popular releases with IGN readers has been none other than Studio Ghibli’s devastating Grave of the Fireflies, which, despite being the animation studio’s earliest (and potentially saddest) movie, is the most recent Studio Ghibli movie to get a 4K release. Another anime steelbook eligible for the deal is Evangelion: 3.0+1.11 Thrice Upon a Time, the fourth and final film in Eva’s Rebuild arc. If you want to feel some feelings, this would be a crazy double feature.
Laika Studio's Coraline is a great pick for spooky season with some particularly colorful artwork. The 2021 steelbook release for John Carpenter's They Live has been a particularly big hit on our IGNDeals account, also owing to some absolutely banging cover art.
Of course, this is IGN, so I'll pay my respect to the supes. We got the limited edition steelbook of the first Venom movie, a cult classic in large part owing to Tom Hardy’s commitment to the bit. I'll admit it seems fitting that the deal also includes Spider Man: No Way Home. Gotta love the mess that is Spider-Man licensing.
As with any physical media promotion, my big recommendation is to go on your own scrolling journey. The "3 for 2" deal includes a spread of movies, books, and even vinyl, so the real joy is finding a selection of things that suit your specific interests.
